It's Been a Busy Letter-Writing Week

In order to truly represent us, our elected officials need to hear what we expect from them.

It's Been a Busy Letter-Writing Week
An almost exact likeness of me writing to politicians!

Dear friends,

I'd been planning on writing something entirely different for this week's newsletter, but those pesky politicians kept doing dumb shit which I felt the need to address.

This newsletter was created to encourage all who read it to do whatever they can (Something! Anything!) to fight fascism. I write letters because it's what I am able to do from the comfort of my couch (with loving support and inspiration from my cats). Fibromyalgia limits so many of the actions and activities I would like to engage in (please be gentle with your friends with invisible disabilities), but, so far, it does not impede my ability to write. The cats and I have been busy this week, trying to save the world with strongly-worded emails.

I wrote and received quite a few political emails this week, some of which I've shared on Facebook. To my surprise, these email conversations garnered a great deal of attention and many comments from friends and strangers alike. Perhaps they'll also resonate with you.

Here's a wee sample of my latest correspondences with various politicians. I share them in hope that (a) they speak to/for you, and (b) you feel inspired to speak truth to power. We are watching the regime crumble in real time, and every action we take hastens its demise.

Sent to all Republican senators on March 25th, 2026:

Dear Senator ____,

Trump may illegally start a war in Iran, but this does not detract from his name showing up thousands of times in the EPSTEIN FILES.
Trump may send his gestapo into our airports to terrorize travellers, but this does not detract from his name showing up thousands of times in the EPSTEIN FILES.
Trump may render the US insolvent (so much for Musk & his DOGE-rats ‘cutting waste, fraud and abuse’!), but this does not detract from his name showing up thousands of times in the EPSTEIN FILES.
Trump and his cronies may be committing treason, making out like the bandits they are with their insider trading using top security secrets, but this does not detract from his name showing up thousands of times in the EPSTEIN FILES.
Trump may continue to shit on our Constitution every single day while you turn a blind eye, or, worse yet, support him, but this does not detract from his name showing up thousands of times in the EPSTEIN FILES.
This week a Democrat won the seat representing Mar-a-Lago. This should be a warning to all Republicans that supporting a fascist takeover by a demented rapist-felon-pedophile is not popular with Americans. No matter how hard Trump tries to suppress votes and cheat his way into another Republican majority, make no mistake, we will find ways to vote Republican asses into the corner where you can sit and think about all the harm you have inflicted upon our nation.

It's not them, it's me!

Sometimes I receive just one or two responses to my emails. But mentioning the war on Iran seems to have hit a sensitive nerve with a bunch of those Republican senators. I got at least a dozen rapid responses to this email!

Maybe the Whitehouse requires their lackeys to use boilerplate responses to various topics. Maybe it's all AI generated. Maybe these guys are all just really psychically connected. Whatever, they all pretty much reply with the same old blah, blah, blah.

But when I write to politicians, I have zero expectations of receiving anything resembling an authentic response to my concerns. It's not about them, it's about me. I write to release some of the fury they ignite (cheaper than therapy). I write because they need to know that we are watching them and will hold them accountable for their complicity. And I write because we all need to do something and this is what I am able to do.

Just as these weenies sent me more or less the same version of their replies to my email of March 25th, I sent a version of this email in response to all those senators trying to defend the Pedo-in-Chief's war on Iran.

Dear Senator Scott,
Let’s take a minute to dissect this paragraph you sent in response to my outrage about Trump unilaterally, recklessly, and ILLEGALLY attacking Iran.
You start off with, “The operation comes after weeks of unrest where the Iranian government massacred tens of thousands of its own people.” So, maybe you can now explain to me how the US and Israel bombing the bejeezus out of Iranian citizens, starting with an elementary school full of little girls makes this all better. In fact, our bombs have made things infinitely worse for everyone in the region.
And then you say, “Despite countless warnings, Khamenei and the regime refused to disband their nuclear program or reduce their uranium enrichment to reasonable levels.” Geez – I thought Trump ‘obliterated’ Iran’s nuclear capabilities last summer. Hmmm, maybe he was just lying (again). Senator, even you need to admit that there is not a single piece of intelligence to support this cockamamie nonsense. Iran was a good 10 years from developing anything the least bit dangerous to us.
And then your accusations get even whackier with, “Iran and its terrorist proxies have been waging war against the United States and our allies for decades.” PROVE IT!!! When was the last time an Iranian bomb blew up a school full of American children? Where is your proof that Iran has been waging war against the US for decades? I’ve seen no evidence of this. I smell a big, fat rat!
Your next sentence is an absolute topper! “Make no mistake – after refusing to engage in substantive negotiations, the ayatollah and his regime has forced U.S. military action upon themselves.” In fact, intelligence reports say that Iran was actually trying to negotiate but the American idiots Kushner and Witkoff (Trump’s ‘special’ envoys to the Middle East) couldn’t negotiate their rich white-boy asses out of a paper bag. It is criminal that these bozos have been allowed to lead us into war. It is equally criminal that, as my elected official you are defending this illegal war.
We all know that Trump started this war to distract from the fact that he appears in the Epstein files thousands of times, and he has been credibly accused of raping children. Rather than supporting spending billions of dollars on bombing innocent people halfway across the world, you should demand that Pam Bondi testify under oath about her role in subverting justice.

(Letter was written before Pam Bondi's termination!)

Closer to home.

I've taken to writing Prime Minister Mark Carney via snail mail, employing a more "You catch more flies with honey" approach than I use with the reprehensible Republicans. Mainly, I'm impressed with how Carney is leading our country through these difficult times, but sometimes he screws up and we need to hold him accountable. On Monday he was incredibly insensitive and disrespectful to a member of the Grassy Narrows community. He needs to apologize and make amends. Here's what I sent:

Dear Prime Minister Carney,
Holy emotional roller coaster, Batman! We’re only ½ way through the political week and the peaks and dips have already been wild, with you driving the train.
Sunday night the nation watched you honour our national icon Joni Mitchell. Wow! I’m not gonna lie – I watched your stellar performance on repeat, each viewing made my eyes well up with tears of joy. Watching our leader celebrate Canadian artists is just what my frazzled nervous system needed. It’s what our nation needed. You did us proud, Prime Minister!
Mere hours after the Junos (Do you ever sleep?), we saw you standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Premier Ford (not my fave) announcing your joint plans to dramatically reduce the cost of building much needed housing. Fantastic! The fact that you’re also investing in highspeed rail and improved public transit really made me happy.
But, at that same press conference, you also broke my heart with your flippant response to Chrissie Isaacs, the woman from Grassy Narrows who, along with 90% of her community, suffers from mercury poisoning. Your dismissive response when Ms. Isaacs called for justice for Grassy Narrows was deeply disappointing. I mean – the living hell that this community has suffered at the hands of irresponsible industry is absolutely devastating. Also devastating was your mocking Ms. Isaacs. Ouch! We often hear you talking about reconciliation, yet there you were, making a joke out of the unbelievable and unjust suffering of the Grassy Narrows First Nation. I sure as heck hope you make the opportunity to make a public apology to Ms. Isaacs and look in to seriously investing in the healing of this community, healing their poisoned lands and waters, healing our colonial harm that has caused 90% of their members to suffer from mercury poisoning.
And then you announced a whopping $3.8 BILLION in environmental protection and restoration. This is such good news! In your announcement you were clear that the government will be partnering with First Nations and Indigenous communities to enact this wonderful plan. Also good news. I sincerely hope some of this $3.8 BILLION will go to restoring the Indigenous lands and waters that have been poisoned by ruthless extraction industries.
With gratitude - Jessica

Doing my part to save democracy.

I actually know very little about political systems, but my understanding of how democracies are meant to work is that they are supposed to represent all the people. In order to truly represent us, our elected officials need to hear what we expect from them. It is our right and our responsibility to hold the people in power accountable to all - not just their special interest groups. Please, go make your voice heard. Make a ruckus!

May you have a noisy week ahead,

Jessica (she/her)
